Banned Books Week: Display

I had a fun time coming up with the display for Banned Books Week.

The book cover banner has really caught the attention of the patrons. But maybe that's cause it got kinda droopy and was smacking people in the face as they walked up to the circ desk...

Oh and I realized I never posted this last year; here is the 2010 display that I really liked but was kind of hidden and didn't seem to get that much notice:

On the hanging card catalog cards I wrote quotes from banned books. I was awarded winner of the "Most Creative Use of Packing Materials" by my fellow librarians. (The tree trunk is made from book packaging). :)

Banned Books Week: DIY

This week we celebrated Banned Books Week. I made this really simple book page banner (from a discarded, no longer loved book).

Step 1: Cut a bunch of little flags out. (I was able to get 2 flags per page)

Step 2: Glue on little flappy.

Step 3: Place string on gluey part.

Step 4: Fold gluey party over stringy part.

Step 5: Get a tall librarian to help you string up! The end.

Teeny Tiny Things Sunday

Hello and happy Sunday! The last few days have kind of been a blur cause of my crazy insomnia. I got maybe an hour of sleep last night. So, today was kinda rough running on no sleep. But I did get to spend the day with my lovely family which is always so much fun!

For today's Teeny Tiny Things Sunday I present my little book locket:

I finally got around to printing out some teeny tiny pictures to keep inside. On the left we have Anton Chekhov and on the right is Rorschach. Via the most awesome blog My Daguerreotype Boyfriend.

Hope you have the most fantastic of weeks ahead!

Tea, Sisters and the State Fair

I've been meaning to blog all week! Our internet went out this weekend so I'm gonna go ahead and use that as an excuse. :)

I had quite the busy week and weekend!

First up, last Wednesday my friends and I had ourselves a little tea party. It was such a fun mid-week treat!

Friday night, Melanie, Hilary and I had a fun night in. We tried on Warby Parkers, skyped with our other sister and just had fun being our silly selves.

Melanie Miscellany: My sister always has the coolist things. Not picture her iPhone..of course! ;)

I wanted a fun way to show off my different colored nails so I had Melanie bring her guitar over and show me a chord. I really do want to learn to play.

We went to the State Fair on Saturday which was so much fun! We hadn't been in about 5 years!

As luck would have it, we chose a night to go that my friends were playing, Red Light Cameras. As we were walking around the midway, I said to my family, "I wonder where they're gonna be playing at?" And in that exact moment they started playing and my mom pointed, "Over there." haha. They did such a great job! Their album drops October 15th and I just can't wait! Definitely check them out.

And that was my week and weekend! Can you believe it's almost the weekend again?! My uncle and aunt are going to be visiting from Washington so that's super exciting. We'll hopefully be hitting up the Balloon Fiesta next weekend. I can't wait!

Do you peeps have any fun plans for the weekend?

And wow..I said "weekend" a lot in this post! ...weekend.

The Unsleep

I was talking to my friend Alex this weekend about my insomnia and the whole inzombia thing and he called me the "unsleep." How brilliant is that?! I never even thought to make that connection.

So, yup, I was the unsleep again this weekend, which I knew to expect cause of the full moon. I was talking to my Grandma Lady and she said that she loves the moon and that it calls her name when its all full and shining down upon us. So, maybe that's where I get my werewolf/zombie reaction?

I had a really great weekend. It was jam packed with all kinds of happenings!

First, I went ice skating for the very first time with my sister Melanie!

I was doing so well and was getting all arrogant cause I hadn't fallen once in the hour we'd been skating and then BAM! I got tangled up and slid on down to the ice. Oddly, I kinda wanted to fall. I wanted to have the experience of falling on the cold ice. Weird, no? We did say "toe pick" a lot while skating. I just love me a Cutting Edge reference.

We got a couple of surprise visitors...

These two little guys have been hanging around the house for the past few days. I think someone just dumped them out in the country, poor guys. My sister Melanie said that they kind of look like Egyptian dogs. I think its the ears. They are real sweet and have been guarding the house, sleeping on the porch in front of the door and running around playing together. My Grandma named them Peter and Paul. I'm not sure if we're gonna be able to keep them...but maybe! My sister has been calling around and emailing everyone to see if we can find them a home.

I made my very first digital short! Melanie helped me focus, edit and post it! I had so much fun! I will definitely be making as many shorts as I can fit into my free time. :)

And lastly, my good friend Matt Livingston sent me a gorgeous picture of New York from a roof top party on Saturday night. I didn't even realize that when he sent it, it was just moments away from September 11th. Such a gorgeous photo!

Welp, I hope you had yourself a lovely weekend! May the week ahead be full of excitement, relaxation and maybe a few happy surprises! :)

Teeny Tiny Dance

Welcome to Teeny Tiny Things Sunday! My sister Melanie helped me make my very first stop motion digital! It only took us 5 years to make a movie. I mean...not this one movie took us 5 years to make...that...would be sad. But yeah...we finally made a movie! (3 degrees and 5 years later...)
Enjoy!

Happy Sunday!

Some things...

I've had quite the lovely weekend. My insomnia really came back with a vengeance and not a sleepy time tea, benadryl, or tylenol pm could ease it. Oh well. I guess I really do need to get my ambien scrip filled again. I just hate that I'm gonna have to pay a damn $30 co-pay to get a $10 refill. BUT, that is only a very teeny tiny annoyance as I'm beyond grateful for my health care benefits.

As is always the case with my insomnia, I am feeling extra happy and optimistic and connected and just wonderful. I feel like I can take on the world and do all the things I always say I'm gonna do and still have yet to do them. I always try and chase this insomnia high and act upon all the great ideas I think I'm having. But without fail my mood levels even out and I go back to plain ol' me that isn't so manic happy and optimistic. But we'll see, maybe this time is the time. I'm gonna try to keep on the up and up and try to pin down the things that I want to accomplish that will make my journey to my ideal happy future a reality.

Does that last sentence even make any sense? It sort of makes sense in my head, but...I can't really trust everything that I think is brilliant in my head.

What I mean to say is that I want to finally start doing all the things that will make my future more attainable. I want to take a screenwriting class, start writing down my ideas, start filming short movies with my sisters and friends in our very limited free time. I want to keep up a gym regimen to help with the happy brain endorphins that'll make me not so depressed and pessimistic. I want to do all the things that I know will make my happy.

So, here we go! Lets do this thing. :)

The lovely Jamie drew this for me. And I fell even more in love with her.
