This past week has been one of the best weeks I've had in ages. All because I spent it doing what I love. Funny how that works. :) My sister Melanie ran a Sci-Fi Film Camp for kids at The Box Theatre owned by our good friend Kristin. I assisted her with acting exercises and general running around. My best friend Jamie also came down to visit and write/rewrite the script the kids used in their final big project.
Spending the week with Jamie, Kristin and my sister was so much fun! We talked theatre, film, reminisced about the good ol' college days. It was lovely.
Immediately after film camp, I jumped into helping my good friend Aleka and her husband Andy with their 48 Hour Film Festival project. I took some productions photos and spent about 7 hours hanging out watching some awesome movie making magic!
Next week it's back to reality (i.e. work). But I've gotta say, this summer has been a pretty great one.

The Kids Come Home
This weekend we made a super short, but super awesome trip back to Portales, NM.
We went to see the show Three Kids Coming Home: Three New Plays by New Mexican Playwrights at Eastern New Mexico University. The three playwrights are the amazing and talented Leonard Madrid, Claire Rice, and Jamie Barnes. Felipe Macias directed all three plays and they were amazing!
We hadn't been back to ENMU in about 3 years! It was definitely nice to see old friends again and a couple of professors. We were getting all nostalgic for the good ol' days of college.
Watching these wonderful shows and being back at the theatre really made us all want to do something together. A movie, a theatre show, something!! I miss that collaboration with fellow artists so much. We've all gotten the theatre bug again, so hopefully this time we'll finally do something! :)
This pic came out a bit blurry but it's one of my favorites of the weekend. That's me in the orange cords on the left, Jami Witt in the middle and Jamie Barnes (one of the playwrights!) on the right. Jami Witt's sister Morgan and my twin sister Hilary were laughing at us cause we were all acting like we hadn't seen each other in like 20 years..but man, 3 years still feels like ages and ages. :)
We were also laughing cause Barnes and I are wearing like 4 inch heels and Witt is still that much taller than us! I think she grew 5 more inches since we graduated! :)
It was a truly great weekend!

Risk. Fail. Risk again*
I finally got all my nonfiction books shelved! With the help of my fellow librarians, of course.
Apparently I like to take photos of my feet! I wore my bright orange cords on Halloween Craft & Story Day! The kids had a blast making Halloween themed crafts and scarfing down frosting loaded cupcakes. And then we sent them home with their parents and guardians all hopped up. :)
There was one scissor--leg incident. :)
I wore my zombie apocalypse boots to work. I just love the blue zipper on these dudes!
And lastly, I did my first audition in 5 YEARS! I auditioned for Peter Pan at The Vortex Theatre. I did stupendously horrible! And, honestly, I couldn't have had a bigger smile on my face when I exited the stage from such a spectacular failure! :D
I was so stressed all week trying to get a monologue together. I almost cancelled my audition because I just didn't feel prepared. I kind of overcommited myself to various music shows and just felt so anxious. But the second I mentioned not going to the audition, my family and friends all insisted that I should do it! I'm so lucky to have such a strong support base in my wonderful friends and family.
I got to the theatre a tad early and was looking over my monologue and trying not to be distracted by the other (giggling and seemingly carefree) actors milling about the lobby. When my name was called I was super excited to be in the black box space. The director and stage manager seemed so friendly! And then...I totally botched my material. I had to start over and then managed to skip half my monologue when it should have been 1-2 minutes long, and probably ended up being like 25 seconds long. (I hope I'm slightly exaggerating that...)
They looked over my resume and inquired about shows I'd done recently (which I stupidly forgot to include on my resume!) And they filled me in on call back information. I then booked it out of the space and through the lobby and to my car and called my best friend Jamie to fill her in on my spectacular failure! :)
I really hope I get called back so I can really show the director and SM what I can do. Auditions are just such a weird creature. A necessary evil in the acting biz I guess.
One last note: It sure is pretty freakin' intimidating walking into a room of actors where 5 other girls are your exact type and auditioning for the same exact role...BUT, thankfully, I had constant competition in college in my 5 friends, where we all competed for the one wife role offered us a year. :)
I survived! And now its the weekend, and I couldn't be more happy!
Have a great Halloween weekend! I think I'll watch some Shaun of the Dead!

*This title is from my friend Jamie. We used to have a Eugene O'Neill Theatre poster hanging in our greenroom in college that had that slogan on it. We used to quote it ALL the time.

Week in Review + Teeny Tiny Things!
Hello to the weekend! Whew! What a week it has been. So busy! I made 4 trips into the big city this week. My car is running on empty..as is my bank account!
My good friend Kristin invited me to go see the show The Last 5 Years which was put on by the Duke City Repretory Theatre. So amazing! I had only ever heard 2 songs from the show. Aw, so good! The two actors were amazing! We went to the opening night so there was a reception after where they had a wedding cake. We got to chat with the actors and crew after. So much fun!
Yesterday we threw my sister Melanie a 30th birthday party. The theme was the 80's-Back to the Childhood. She brought all her awesome Star Wars toys and She-Ra for decorations. My aunt Lori also made this awesome poster for us:
My cousin and I were the only ones to dress up 80's style, but everyone seemed to have a blast. We ate lots of yummy food and danced the night away. So much fun!
One of the librarians brought me these blue legwarmers cause I misplaced mine. I cut up an old American Eagle hoodie and my hair and makeup was pretty 80's-tastic but by this point in the night, I'd danced it all off! haha!
And without further ado, here are some teeny tiny things for your viewing pleasure!
I bought these cute little railroad model odds 'n ends at a local thrift/antique store. A big ol' bag for $8! What a steal!
Welp, that's all I have for this photo attack blog post! Hope you're having a great weekend!

Modern Love
How awesome is my lovely friend Jamie? Way awesome=is the answer to that question. She's a brilliant writer, artist and all around awesome lady. We survived undergrad together with sarcasm, snark, silliness, smiles and...soda.
For the holidays she sends personally illustrated adorable cards. How cute is this Valentine's Day card? Way cute=is the answer to that question as well.
Today (the beginning of my work week) ended surprisingly well. After an...interesting...day at work, I rushed home, said hello to the family and then ran off into the big city for a play reading for my friend Jennae's dads' play. {It was an awesome play by the by!} My good friend Kristin co-owns her own theatre downtown so that's where we held the play reading. It felt sooo good to do a play reading, let me tell you. I haven't had one of those since college...almost five years ago!
After the play reading we took a stroll downtown to a yummy little cafe. When we walked in, all the tables were taken and it was oddly quiet. We took a seat at the bar and then Jennae proclaimed, "Oh! It's Geeks Who Drink Night!" haha. That's why it was so quiet. All the cute bar peeps were concentrating on their survey questions. As we enjoyed our drinks and a burger, we got to hear some ridiculously funny trivia questions. There was a segment entirely based off of the CSI: Miami scream and random movie audio clips. It was hilarious!
All in all, a great Tuesday night! Need to have many more like it.
PS-That last photo is of Jennae's boyfriend Kurt (or Qurt as I call him). Isn't it just so freakin' funny? haha...makes me laugh...
