Oh, Hello!

It's been about a bazillion months since the last post. Such a slacker. I know you've been dying to hear what I've been up to. Or not at all. But I'm gonna tell you anyway!

-At the end of July we had our 10 year high school reunion. It was a lot of work and pretty stressful but it ended up being a lot of fun. It was really nice to see old friends that we hadn't seen since graduation.
-Chopped all my hair off.
-Helped my sister Angelica and her husband move to St. Paul, Minnesota. Got to see some lovely sights and have a mini vacation with the family.
-Helped out with a museum exhibit and wandered around an awesome corn maze.

-Went to the big Homecoming game at the ol' high school. Our boys have been doing amazing this season. So far undefeated and playing for the state title this upcoming Friday! My sis Hilary was saying our tiny town has totally turned into Friday Night Lights with all the businesses showing their support with signs all along main street. Go orange and blue!

-We had a wedding in the family and a baptism. Lots of lovely time spent with both sides of family. Love them so!
-Saw Sondre Lerche and Florence + the Machine in concert. Both wonderfully awesome!

-Made a potato ET.

-Halloween! Helped my sisters make costumes: SkippyJon Jones and a Rosie the Riveter! I dressed up as Ramona Flowers. I also went with my good friend Jennae and her bf to the Museum of Natural History and Science for a fun Halloween late night open exhibit. I think that'll be a new fun tradition.

-Yummy Thanksgiving!

And that brings us up to December. Whew! I can't believe its already December. Thankfully it's only the 2nd...kinda feels like it should already be the middle of the month for some reason. Maybe its all the decorating we've been doing this last week and a half.

This morning my sis Mel made the first (double) batch of biscochitos. In the afternoon we put* lights up outside. It's so unbelievably warm in New Mexico right now that I'm pretty sure I got sunburned while hanging lights on the house. Before you know it Christmas will be here. Hopefully I'll fit in a blog or two before another 5 months goes by!

Happy December!

~Heather~

*'Put lights up' is such a New Mexican way of saying that. People also say 'put gas' and 'put the light out'= turn the light off. haha. Odd, I know.

Family, Flags and Fireworks!

I had a great 4th of July with my family. First, we woke up super early to go to the parade. We're usually out of town in the mountains so this was the first time we had ever been. My great aunt Lucy is running for County Clerk so we went to show our support and cheer extra loud as her awesome float went by. I was also super happy to see a PFLAG float in this years parade!

Once it got dark we lit a few fireworks that my sister Melanie and my brother-in-law Ryan bought. I especially loved the sparklers.

1. Veterans and active military with gorgeous flags
2. PFLAG Float
3. Livestock!
4. Sparkler crazy!
5. Melly dancing all cute
6. The one and only fountain
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your friends and family! Now it's time for some more days off! :) Have a great weekend!

Teeny Tiny Toms

Today we got to babysit my cousin's baby, the little Analee. She is just the most cutest little gal! My cousin Felicita had her dressed in this adorable pink plaid shirt and skinny jeans. We also gave her her Christmas present early, little pink corduroy Tiny Toms!

We got to spend most the day with her playing with blocks and crayons and books. She's a year and a half and still talks in that adorable little baby language. It was a fun mess of chaos and cute!

Thanks

Hello all! I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving! We had family over at my parents house. For some reason it took ages to eat this year. We were all very hungry by the time we finally ate (6pm!). And some of us (me) were a little buzzed off Sangria! :)

Below are some Instagram pics from the weekend. I had two days off of work and spent much of it being super lazy. (Except for the part where I helped prep all the food for Thanksgiving dinner!)

Hope you were all able to spend the holiday with family and friends and the ones you love!

New Mexico Thanksgiving: red chile+mashed potatoes= the best!
My sister Melanie's Super Nintendo. Fun Fact: She spent part of her First Holy Communion money on this. :)
Got Melanie some nerd-books for the long weekend. :)

Made some yummy hot chocolate in my Casita Tacita (Little House Cup).

Tea, Sisters and the State Fair

I've been meaning to blog all week! Our internet went out this weekend so I'm gonna go ahead and use that as an excuse. :)

I had quite the busy week and weekend!

First up, last Wednesday my friends and I had ourselves a little tea party. It was such a fun mid-week treat!

Friday night, Melanie, Hilary and I had a fun night in. We tried on Warby Parkers, skyped with our other sister and just had fun being our silly selves.

Melanie Miscellany: My sister always has the coolist things. Not picture her iPhone..of course! ;)

I wanted a fun way to show off my different colored nails so I had Melanie bring her guitar over and show me a chord. I really do want to learn to play.

We went to the State Fair on Saturday which was so much fun! We hadn't been in about 5 years!

As luck would have it, we chose a night to go that my friends were playing, Red Light Cameras. As we were walking around the midway, I said to my family, "I wonder where they're gonna be playing at?" And in that exact moment they started playing and my mom pointed, "Over there." haha. They did such a great job! Their album drops October 15th and I just can't wait! Definitely check them out.

And that was my week and weekend! Can you believe it's almost the weekend again?! My uncle and aunt are going to be visiting from Washington so that's super exciting. We'll hopefully be hitting up the Balloon Fiesta next weekend. I can't wait!

Do you peeps have any fun plans for the weekend?

And wow..I said "weekend" a lot in this post! ...weekend.

Teeny Tiny Things Sunday

Today's Teeny Tiny Things is brought to you by my lovely sister Melanie. She was snapping a few shots of baby-zilla terrorizing a teeny tiny village while I was watching Pixiwoo tutorials. (I'm seriously obsessed with them).

It was quite the busy week. Super long. So glad that it's finally the weekend! I got to spend Saturday and Sunday with my sisters and we had ourselves some good times. Today we watched Our Idiot Brother and it was so good! I wasn't expecting it to be so charming, funny and sweet. Paul Rudd was just so adorable and I of course loved the sister dynamics. Such a great little world. I would definitely love to see it again.

Tomorrow I have to drop off my sister at the airport. :( Always so sad to say goodbye. We were super lucky this summer though because of how the holidays and such fell, we got to see her every 3 weeks or so since July. And before we know it Christmas will be right around the corner and we'll all be together again!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! May the week ahead fly right by straight into the 3 day weekend! :)

Week in Review + Teeny Tiny Things!

Hello to the weekend! Whew! What a week it has been. So busy! I made 4 trips into the big city this week. My car is running on empty..as is my bank account!

My good friend Kristin invited me to go see the show The Last 5 Years which was put on by the Duke City Repretory Theatre. So amazing! I had only ever heard 2 songs from the show. Aw, so good! The two actors were amazing! We went to the opening night so there was a reception after where they had a wedding cake. We got to chat with the actors and crew after. So much fun!

Yesterday we threw my sister Melanie a 30th birthday party. The theme was the 80's-Back to the Childhood. She brought all her awesome Star Wars toys and She-Ra for decorations. My aunt Lori also made this awesome poster for us:

My cousin and I were the only ones to dress up 80's style, but everyone seemed to have a blast. We ate lots of yummy food and danced the night away. So much fun!

One of the librarians brought me these blue legwarmers cause I misplaced mine. I cut up an old American Eagle hoodie and my hair and makeup was pretty 80's-tastic but by this point in the night, I'd danced it all off! haha!

And without further ado, here are some teeny tiny things for your viewing pleasure!

I bought these cute little railroad model odds 'n ends at a local thrift/antique store. A big ol' bag for $8! What a steal!

Welp, that's all I have for this photo attack blog post! Hope you're having a great weekend!

Fly Away Pig?

Hello and welcome to the new blog of me! I decided a fresh start to my blog was in order. Plus now the URL matches my blog title so, you know, that's good.

The first thing you might be wondering is where my fantastic blog title came from? Well, as the story goes, my grandma (Grandma Lady) and her brothers and sisters used to say this phrase every time they would return home. And it became one of those family phrases that's been passed down to the next generations (currently in its 3rd rotation and on to the next when us grandkids buck up and start popping out some li'l cuties of our own).

A quick google search tells me that the original phrase is "Home again, home again, jiggety-jig" from the Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme:

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,
Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.

To market, to market, to buy a fat hog,
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.

To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,
Home again, home again, market is done.

Okay, so why did I choose this as my blog title? Well, it's just home to me. It's what we say when we return safely from our errands. It runs through my mind automatically as I make my way up the dirt road to my parents house. As you'll see in future posts (if I can keep my act together and actually write the darn posts) is that home is a big part of what makes me, me. Cliche, I know. But, none the less true.

Home. It's where my memories were started. It's where my sisters and I had free reign to be creative, yell and fight, test the boundaries, break some rules, grow, learn, laugh, love.

So home. It's definitely where my heart is and maybe we can't go home again, but there sure is no place like it.

And thus is the story of the blog title.

Thanks for reading!

Peace, love and flying pigs.

InZombia

Seriously, this insomnia thing is quite ridiculous.

Actually it's really past the point of ridiculous. I think it really is just a part of my natural sleep/life cycle and maybe I should just learn to love and accept it, you know? The only part that has me thinking that I really should get it checked out again (for the 3rd time) is that long term insomnia really isn't that great for your health. I have this li'l sleep book and a Science News mag from the library all about sleep and I really should make an effort and follow some of their suggestions on treating insomnia. I need to stop sitting up with my computer to the last drop of night before bed. I need to give myself a chance to wind down before hitting the sheets. I really need to make that sleepy time iPod mix so that I can stop listening to Bad Romance and getting all pumped up and ready to go dancin'. I need to incorporate lovely yoga back into my life. I should go to the gym after work to burn some energy before coming home and zoning out in from of the TV for 4 hours. I should take a page from my Mom and read a book before bed and lull myself to sleep. I should. I should. I should. But do I? Obviously not.

But I'm determined to try and start all this good stuff. It's almost a new year, might as well end 2009 on a good note of "A" for affort. :) Yup.

On the plus side of my insomnia, I do get this ridiculous burst of energy and feel like I can conquer the world. I'm such a hot mess to be around with my caffeine like giddiness for life. I have all these grand ideas for screenplays and magazine interviews I'll one day give. I get very optimistic for life and the future of humankind. I actually give a damn about the life I have to live ahead. I start to think that if we actually are all doomed to continue on the decline of human progress, and that if we truly have reached the precipice for human achievement then at least I'll give it my all and have a great time laughing and living with friends and family. And I think then maybe it was all worth it.

So yeah, insomnia. My friend and foe. Like I've said before, it really is fun and cute and productive for the first 2 or 3 nights, but by the 4th day I turn into ZombieHeather and eat brains. I mean, I pretty much just stare off into the distance and space out and get chills and say weird things that pop into my head that make me sound drunk and then I take some benadryl and pass out madstyle. Then the next day I wake up and go back to my "normal" sleep hours of most humans between 6-8 hours a night. And about 3 weeks later it starts all over again.

The one really sad/kinda funny thing about this whole insomnia thing is that now when ever a friend, family member or coworker has sleep trouble they always think of me! I always tell them to text me cause I know what it's like to be wide awake in bed and kinda wishing you had someone to chat with. Fortunately I have a good buddy who is almost always game for a few random texts at 2am. Every body needs an insomnia, middle of the night text buddy. Yup.

So, yet again, I've blogged about insomnia. Lame. I originally came here to tell you all about my weekend with the lovely Jami. We have one more day of awesome hanging out left, so I'll be sure to post some photos and words about the adventures we've had.

Peace and applesauce.

Don't you just love Fall? It is absolutely one of my favorite times of the year. It's an ending and a beginning. An ending to the passing year and a look ahead to a whole new one with "no mistakes in it, yet." Happy November!
